Social Media Can Boost Trust

leave a comment »

by John Gray

Skip from stream to stream on Twitter and you’ll see a trend among the brands and retailers posting there: most have something valuable to say. They may not be solving the world’s problems, but they are answering questions, sharing tips, and putting forth advice as it relates to their area of expertise: their market segment.

As a marketing and public relations tactic, the concept of knowledge sharing has long been applied by businesses and brands. The idea is to demonstrate expertise through articles, commentary, and conversations that have a positive effect on the perception of your products and brand.

To successfully integrate social media into your marketing strategy, there are a few things you should keep in mind:

  • Online communities and their users appreciate authenticity and transparency; they’ll see right through a poster whose desire to sell his products trumps his interest in sharing what he knows.
  • Your objective should be about helping consumers first and foremost; the benefits to your brand will follow.
  • Accept the fact that using social media for knowledge sharing is, at its core, a branding and customer service effort, not a technique for quickly boosting sales.
  • Communicate effectively and informally, and leave the sales-speak at the door.
  • Play the part of consumer as much as corporate representative; put yourself in your customer’s place, try to address his concerns, and deliver information that has some practical applications.

Sharing the knowledge that your company possesses through social media sites is one of the easiest ways to connect with consumers. Playing up your brand’s market knowledge is a smart way to position it in the social media space.

So I took my date to Cost Cutters on our First Date

leave a comment »

So mid afternoon I text my date Lindsey, “What do you think about going to Cost Cutters on our 1st date?” She totally thought I was joking.

So as we’ve learned at Qittle sometimes SMS isn’t enough :)

So I proceeded to pick up the phone and call Lindsey, “Just think when you go out with all of your girls on Friday night and you can say”

“So he took me to a Cost Cutters on our 1st date.”

Come on no other lady will be able to beat that story. Long story short, after taking her to a late afternoon meal we proceeded to our nearest Cost Cutters.

Thanks Lindsey for making it a fun trip to Cost Cutters

$450k raised for Keep a Child Alive via SMS

leave a comment »

LOS ANGELES -Twelve-time Grammy-winning singer Alicia Keys’ appearance on FOX’s “American Idol” Wednesday night (May 13) raised an astonishing $450,000 from more than 90,000 mobile donors who texted their donations. Keep a Child Alive is the non-profit organization co-founded by Keys to provide health care and housing to children with HIV/AIDS in Africa and India.

In a first for “American Idol,” and a departure from traditional fundraising methods, Keys asked the show’s 30 million viewers to use their mobile phones to give $5 by sending the text message ALIVE to 90999. Seconds after texting in, they received a message back asking for confirmation. Mobile donors confirmed by replying “YES” via text message. The $5 donation will be added to their next mobile phone bill.

To date, the “Give $5 Text ALIVE” campaign has raised more than $500,000 for Keys’ cause. In addition to a co-founder, Keys serves as the group’s global ambassador.

Keys was joined on American Idol by a 15-year-old Rwandan rapper, Noah, who is a patient at the Kigali clinic funded by Keep a Child Alive. Noah captured the heart of Americans on the “Tyra Banks Show” in December, and has a popular youtube.com video.

Recession Fuels High-Tech Conversion

leave a comment »

Think your business is communicating fine without a mobile presence? Think again.

For the first time ever, the number of cell phone only households outnumbered landline users. A Center for Disease Control report released May 6, 2009 found that cell phone only households increased 3% over the first six months of 2008, the largest increase since data collection began in 2003. Other findings include households with no cell phones was only 17%. Compare these numbers with the 2003 stats of cell phone only households at 3% and the number of households with purely landlines at 43%.

The report findings included the fact that 15% have both cell phones and landlines, but these were mostly because they receive their internet connection via their landline. This means that one in three households are exclusively reachable via their cellphones.

Couple this report with the decline of readership within the  newspaper industry and you can begin to see that the best way to reach prople today is by cell phone and Social Networking websites.

There is an answer, however.  Qittle can provide your business with the tools to easily reach your core audience through permission based text messaging and social networking.
