matthew robson

15 year old Matthew Robson an intern for 2 weeks at Morgan Stanley has the banking world abuzz with his youthful wisdom. Girls are a lot more prone to spend their time on social networking sites. Matthew uses Facebook but his accounts with Piczo and Bebo have lapsed and Twitter is strictly for the elderly. “It’s aimed at adults,” he said.

His supervisors thought the report “one of the clearest and most thought-provoking insights we have seen” and published it. Matthew, meanwhile, finished his internship and went on scout camp. The bank said that the response to his report had been enormous – generating six times the usual level of interest.

Group Text Messaging

The guys at Wired Magazine created the new rules for a technology based society. “How to Behave: New Rules for Highly Evolved Humans”

Here are a few of the rules:

  • Don’t send out a follow-up email apologizing for a typo in a previous email.
  • For marital peace, keep separate Netflix queues.
  • Tidy your room before recording a vlog.
  • Never end an email with “take it sleazy.”
  • Tag Flickr photos freely—there’s no such thing as too many tags.
  • Turn off “Sent from my iPhone” email signatures.
  • Back up your hard drive. Right now.
  • Invite friends to new Facebook apps as often as you like.
  • Eat at your friend’s restaurant—or read his book or listen to her music— before you post a review.

    Text Ad Campaigns

    Iphone Billboard

Mobile phones are an increasingly vital link to information, banking and commerce; 11% of the country’s 267 million mobile phone users own Internet-ready smart phones. In recent months brands including Buick, Kraft and Walmart and have been building “M sites”–mobile phone-ready versions of their Web sites. Alexandre Mars, chief executive of Phonevalley and head of mobile at Publicis Groupe, says M sites should be the first step in any company’s mobile marketing strategy. “You can’t teach your baby to run before it knows how to walk,” says Mars.

According to mobile research firm M:Metrics, 49% of American mobile phone users actively use text messaging, which explains marketers’ interest in text-based campaigns. Last year Ogilvy used text messaging in a test pilot with its then-client, mattress and bed manufacturer Select Comfort. Select Comfort bought ads in local newspapers, which instructed users to send the company an SMS message with their zip code. Select Comfort sent back the nearest store location along with a mobile coupon for $50 off. According to OgilvyOne’s Mandel, seven times more people texted in their responses than those who called in the company’s 1-800 number that was also in the advertisement.

Phonevalley’s Alexandre Mars says that both mobile banner ads and text-based campaigns have the advantage of being easy to scale. “The question is still the same,” Mars says. “How can you do it big? When you are talking to clients, you have to be scalable.” In October Phonevalley completed a campaign for Puma in China. Mobile phone users could download a mobile game, after which Puma sent them a coupon for a free phone toy accessory. One hundred and fifty-five thousand people downloaded the mobile game, and 70,000 redeemed the coupon in stores.

    Mobile Ad Platforms

    leave a comment »

With the unprecedented growth of Mobile apps, content and smart phones the next explosion in the market place will be Mobile Ads. As consumers get more content and information on their mobile phones, brands will need to get in front of them.

    Iphone Qittle

With out a doubt Google will try to leverage their Adsense platform which is in the works and a big reason that they are a part of so many mobile applications. However there are other players and platforms that will provide space for brands to move their message onto the mobile frontier. SMS of course is the most logical first step to the mobile phone at this time.

With the growth of Smart phones web enabled mobile websites will continue to be a huge way for brands to drive click through and redemption. It is amazing how many brands do not have mobile websites or marketing plans in place to reach this growing web traffic.

Google is now moving into the mobile ad market following the testing of text and graphical ads in private beta. The web-behemoth has expanded its field testing and is playing with contextual ads for both platforms. According to Google the ads can be targeted by “applications, locations, categories or keywords.”

Program developers can insert a snippet of code within their applications, allowing iPhone and Android powered handsets to display ads. This effectively synchronizes the application with the Google ad network and opens up significant earning opportunities down the road. (From http://www.blogtrepreneur.com)

Where are all of the Teens going?

    leave a comment »

Facebook use by high school and college users dropped 16.5 percent and 21.7 percent, respectively.

“There have been rumors that these younger user groups are being alienated by their parents joining the service, and this data seems to prove it,” iStrategyLabs CEO Peter Corbett wrote in this statement

Facebook has experienced a “staggering increase,” in users—513.7 percent—aged 55 and older in the last six months.

iStrategyLabs, which culled demographics and statistics from Facebook’s social ads platform, found that fewer than 1 million users aged 55 and older used Facebook in January 2009. Conversely, more than 5.8 million Facebook users fell in the 55+ age range as of July 4.

So it seems as Facebook becomes more popular their base may end up leaving to find the new cool thing. At Qittle we believe a balanced Social Networking presence is important but don’t be fooled this is a very hot and cold space. So use them all through our Social Networking updating tool to build your Mobile Data Base, because we’ll always have a Cell Phone but we may not always be Facebookers.
