THE TANNING STUDIO REPORTS BIG RESULTS WITH QITTLE
Chain of tanning salons kicks off a mobile marketing campaign with coupon texts
Aspen, CO (October 14th, 2009)—The Tanning Studio, a chain of tanning salons out of Wisconsin, is using Qittle to send mobile text messages for a complimentary tan and in turn, build its mobile database.
In trying to broaden their reach, The Tanning Studio has turned to new media marketing.
“In the past 10 years, we have moved from newspaper, postcards and mailings to web pages, social networking and texting,” said Jodi Krenz, owner of The Tanning Salon. “With our mobile coupons, we have had an 85 percent success rate with customers coming in for the complimentary session and returning to purchase packages.”
The business is advertising the text offer in house with business cards as well as on the radio. Customers can text ‘TANNING’ to 32075 to receive their complimentary tan. They plan to soon have a company car with the keyword printed on the back.
After building a database of mobile numbers, the salon is now reaching out to those customers at opportune times and with valuable information. The Tanning Studio has been texting customers once a month with specials and information on positive sun awareness.
Jodi is sold on the text marketing method and says her customers are happy as well. “They love it and are actually wanting us to text them more often than what we have!”

Restaurant chain Hooters of America’s use of text-message marketing within its video-on-demand commercial spots resulted in a 32 percent increase in sales during the program.
Television commercials ran with graphics at the bottom of the screen inviting viewers to learn more about the Hooters Mobile Club. By clicking a button on the remote control, viewers were taken to a longer video where a Hooters girl demonstrates how to text the keywod WINGS to short code 36832 and receive Free Boneless Wings by joining the Mobile Club.
